You did it again. You over-plucked - Cue the horror music!
While some of us are blessed with naturally thick eyebrows, some people struggle with this. I receive a lot of inquires about growing thicker eyebrows or how to grow eyelashes back after wearing extensions. My number one natural remedy for this is castor oil.
What is Castor oil?
Castor oil is native to India and comes from the castor seed, Ricinus communis. It has a very unusual chemical composition. Castor oil is a triglyceride, composed of fatty acids, 90 percent of which is ricinoleic acid.
Centuries ago, the plant was referred to as "Palma Christe" because the leaves were said to resemble the hand of Christ and because of people's reverence for the plant's healing abilities.
Castor oil has been used all over the world for centuries in countries such as Ancient Egypt, China, Persia, Africa, Greece, Rome, and in 17th Century Europe and the Americas.
This amazing oil has been used to provide relief from constipation, helps regulate menstrual cycles, stimulates secretion of milk in lactating mothers, useful for treating skin diseases caused by microbial infection and skin ulcers.
Castor oil is the best natural remedy for growing thicker eyebrows, eyelashes, and re-growing hair on your scalp.
Castor oil for Thicker Eyebrows
I originally read about Castor oil in a natural anti-aging beauty book. It is one of my favorite natural beauty hack! The writer spoke about the health benefits of castor oil for the skin and preventing wrinkles. I thought I would give castor oil a try.
I started putting castor oil on my entire face every single night. I rubbed it all over my eyebrows as well. At that point I did not even know that castor oil could dramatically increase your hair growth.
My eyebrows are already pretty thick but they started growing even thicker and faster. It was crazy! I realized that this rapid hair growth had been because of my nightly application of castor oil.
I started reading about castor oil and hair growth. There are a few reasons why this mysterious oil can help you re-grow your hair back whether it be your hair on your head, your eyelashes, or eyebrows.
Why does Castor oil help with hair growth?
The germicidal, insecticidal and fungicidal properties of Ricinoleic acid that is present in castor oil protects the scalp and hair from microbial and fungal infections, the two prime causes of hair loss.
The omega-9 fatty acids in castor oil help to nourish the hair and prevent the scalp from drying by retaining moisture. These fatty acids also nourish the hair follicle as well as the surrounding skin. Castor oil has a unique ability to by deeply penetrating which helps to deliver these nutrients deep into the pores and hair follicles.
Castor oil also adds a lush glossiness to shine the hair. You can add a tiny bit to the ends of your hair to help smooth and gloss your hair. But be careful because less is more. Castor oil is probably the thickest oil I’ve ever used. You want to only use a small amount, two drops at the most. Penetrate
For Hair Re-growth
You can use castor oil as a scalp treatment to regrow your hair back. This can be very tricky, since castor oil is very thick. You need to use a lighter oil along with the caster oil to thin it out. I recommend using melted coconut oil or jojoba oil along with castor oil.
Eyelashes
To help eyelashes grow, apply castor oil to eyelashes at night. This will help prevent thinning and shedding.
Maximum Hair Growth
For optimal hair re-growth, I would recommend doing castor oil scalp treatments, taking a collagen supplement daily, and eating a sweet potato a day.
Castor Oil for Skin
As always what is great for your hair is usually great for your hair! Castor oil can help reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and scar tissues. It has the ability to penetrate deep through multiple skin layers.
Castor oil is also amazing for lips. Our lips constantly need protection against the elements and can be easily affected by dehydration and the sun. Castor oil helps to smooth out lips with the help of the fatty acids and helps protect them with its thickness.
